Air Liquide highlights the importance of Safety Data Sheets for hazardous substances

0Comments

Air Liquide emphasized on March 16 the critical role of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), also known as Fichas de Datos de Seguridad (FDS), in ensuring safety when handling gases, chemicals, or potentially dangerous substances in industrial, laboratory, hospital, or logistics environments.

The company said that clear and reliable information about each substance is essential to protect people, facilities, and the environment. SDS documents provide detailed data on a substance’s composition, physical and chemical properties, health risks, environmental hazards, handling guidelines, storage requirements, transportation instructions, disposal methods, personal protection measures, and emergency procedures.

According to Air Liquide, these documents are key tools for risk prevention. They guide employers and workers on safe handling practices to minimize accidents such as toxic exposure or fires. The company noted that many countries require SDS documentation by law for importing, transporting, storing, or using hazardous materials. This requirement helps companies avoid penalties and ensures worker safety.

Air Liquide stated that its SDSs are available in a clear and accessible manner for products like argon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen. The company said its sheets comply with international standards such as GHS/SDS classification systems. In addition to providing documentation with each product shipment, Air Liquide offers technical support and training to help clients implement best practices in handling hazardous substances.

The company explained that proper use of SDS includes reading the document before handling any material; using appropriate personal protective equipment; ensuring correct storage and transport conditions; keeping records up-to-date; and having emergency protocols in place. Air Liquide also highlighted the importance of integrating SDS into workplace safety management systems through staff training and regular audits.

In conclusion, Air Liquide said that working with a responsible supplier who provides up-to-date technical documentation can make a significant difference in operational safety. The company encouraged businesses dealing with hazardous materials to prioritize obtaining and correctly using SDSs as part of their commitment to safe operations.
