The Ente Autárquico Permanente de la Fiesta Nacional de los Estudiantes announced on April 4 the death of Ana María Lacunza in San Salvador de Jujuy at the age of 88.
Lacunza played a key role in the history of the Fiesta Nacional de los Estudiantes. She was part of the first Student Commission in 1972, supporting young people during an important and foundational time for one of Jujuy’s most representative events.
In addition to her involvement with the festival, Lacunza was known as a writer and journalist. Her career spanned more than four decades and was closely linked to local culture. One of her most significant contributions is her book “La Fiesta de los Estudiantes. Entusiasmo en primavera,” which is regarded as an important historical record about the celebration.
The organization highlighted her legacy and contribution to Jujuy’s collective memory. “We accompany her family, loved ones and offer a prayer for her eternal rest and thank her for her invaluable legacy,” they said.
Lacunza’s passing marks a moment of reflection on the lasting impact individuals can have on cultural traditions through dedication and storytelling.
