Anne Hathaway requested on March 29 that only healthy models be cast in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. Hathaway, who will reprise her role as Andy Sachs, made a formal request to producers not to hire extremely thin models for scenes in the film.
The issue gained attention after Hathaway and co-star Meryl Streep attended Milan Fashion Week in October 2025 as part of their research for the movie. According to Streep in a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, both actresses were “horrified” by seeing many models who appeared “alarmingly thin” or even “skeletal,” which they believed was an outdated standard within the industry.
Upon returning from Milan, Hathaway approached producers to secure a casting commitment that would prioritize health and body diversity among the film’s extras and featured talent. The aim is to prevent the movie from promoting dangerous or unattainable physical standards.
The original film, released in 2006, famously satirized size-zero culture and extreme dieting trends of that era. This new installment seeks instead to reflect a more responsible and conscious fashion industry.
The sequel is scheduled for release on April 30, 2026. It will follow Miranda Priestly (played by Streep) as she faces challenges related to the decline of print magazines while reconnecting with Andy Sachs (Hathaway) and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now an executive at a luxury group.
