Banco de la Nación Argentina took part in the “Argentina Fintech Forum 2025,” an event organized by the Argentine Fintech Chamber that brought together key figures from the digital financial sector under the theme of “Convergence.” The forum, held in Buenos Aires, focused on examining challenges and opportunities related to digital transformation in finance, new business models, and integration between traditional banks and fintech companies.
Gastón Álvarez, general manager of Banco Nación, participated in a panel titled “The role of public banking in the new stage of the Argentine financial system.” He stated: “Our vital and primary concept is to be a digital, federal, and regional bank while improving customer experience. We seek to give customers the possibility to operate 24/7/24—that is, in all 24 provinces, seven days a week, 24 hours a day through whichever channel each client wants to use.” He added: “Today the BNA+ app has 11.5 million active clients.”
Álvarez also noted: “Banco Nación has complemented itself with the fintech universe and this can be seen in transportation access, where this month we reached one million trips through systems that are not closed.”
Regarding open banking initiatives in public banking, Álvarez said: “We celebrate the step taken by the Central Bank bringing together key market players. Ninety percent of the financial system is at this table created by BCRA and we see it as a great opportunity. The main goal is to bring financial freedom and choice to everyone.”
Fabián Muñoz, head of Information Asset Protection at Banco Nación, joined a panel on cybersecurity titled “Cybersecurity 360: challenges, risks and opportunities from a strategic perspective.” He commented: “Investment in cybersecurity is as relevant as innovation itself. The risks faced by both financial and technological industries are analogous.” He further emphasized: “Banking has significant maturity regarding cybersecurity but must continue evolving to maintain digital trust amid ongoing transformation.”
On open payment systems for transportation, Hernán Portillo—general manager of Nación Servicios—stated: “We are at 85% deployment of new equipment on buses. In Argentina’s interior regions we have reached 99.5% implementation; within AMBA there remain 4,000 units which will be completed between November and December, fulfilling our commitment with Banco Nación to renew all equipment within one year.” He added: “The discussion is no longer about enabling different payment methods but about how people travel. The technology is already available; what matters now is user choice and how each person decides to pay for their trip.”
Other attendees from Banco Nación included directors Armando Guibert, Delfina Hempe, Gonzalo Pascual and Solana Pelayo; auditor Marcelo Bastante; deputy general manager for Integrity and Compliance Claudio Scarso; strategic management department head María del Pilar Montarcé; client department head Ludmila Schmidt; along with other officials.
Banco Nación’s participation underscores its commitment to innovation and technological modernization as strategic pillars supporting growth within Argentina’s fintech ecosystem and strengthening convergence between technology and financial services.
