More than one million daily bus trips in Argentina are now paid using QR codes and cards, according to Banco de la Nación Argentina. The bank, through its subsidiary Nación Servicios, reported that since November 15, this milestone has been reached as part of a digital transformation initiative aimed at providing faster and safer financial solutions.
In 2025 so far, over 60 million transactions have been recorded through the open payment system on more than 23,000 buses operating in 49 cities across several provinces. These include Córdoba, Santa Fe, San Luis, Catamarca, Neuquén, Mendoza, Tucumán, Buenos Aires, Río Negro, Entre Ríos, San Juan, Chubut, Chaco, La Pampa, Formosa, Santiago del Estero, Corrientes and Jujuy.
The technological upgrades have made the system available on 1,687 bus lines. This covers 99.5% of buses outside Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), 79% of AMBA units and all buses under the jurisdiction of the City of Buenos Aires.
The modernization plan aims for all motor transport vehicles nationwide to have compatible payment validators by year-end. This would extend coverage to more than 60 localities throughout Argentina.
According to Banco de la Nación Argentina: “This progress was possible thanks to the adaptation of payment devices installed on buses and the update of computer systems carried out by Nación Servicios with support from Banco Nación, the Secretariat of Transport of the Ministry of Economy and the Central Bank of Argentina.”
