Betular Pâtisserie, led by Damián Betular, drew attention on Apr. 3 as its Easter eggs became a subject of discussion not only for their craftsmanship but also for their high prices, which generated debate across social media platforms such as TikTok and X (Twitter).
The focus this year is on the “Galaxy” design, featuring a marbled and metallic finish that resembles the cosmos. These effects are achieved through hand-painting techniques applied to white, milk, and dark chocolate made from selected origins. Inside each egg are signature bonbons, chocolate-covered hazelnuts, and pistachio mini-tablets—moving away from traditional industrial surprises.
The pricing has become a trending topic online. The small egg (250g) is priced at $36,000 pesos; the medium (600g) at $80,000; the extra-large (1kg) at $150,000; and the traditional Rosca de Pascua at $45,000. Social media users have shared memes and comparisons regarding these prices.
Some customers argue that the quality of ingredients and artisanal work justify the cost given Betular’s reputation as one of Argentina’s leading pastry chefs. Others see it as an exclusive seasonal luxury accessible only to those able to purchase from Betular’s well-known Villa Devoto location.
Despite criticism over costs, long lines outside the shop and sold-out signs on its online store suggest strong demand remains for Betular’s products during Easter.
