Braskem, a major polyolefins producer and global biopolymer manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Katoen Natie for a new warehouse project in Singapore. Katoen Natie is a logistics and engineering company based in Belgium that provides integrated services such as warehousing, storage, and port operations. The company also offers specialized logistics for the petrochemical and specialty chemical sectors.
Braskem began its operations in Southeast Asia in 2011 by establishing a presence in Singapore. In 2018, it started polymer sales there to serve the Indo-Pacific market. Since then, Braskem has expanded its regional footprint by adding a logistics hub and opening a representative office in Tokyo in 2023. That same year, Braskem entered into a joint venture with SCG Chemicals called BraskemSiam to produce bio-ethylene from bio-ethanol dehydration at a plant in Thailand. The joint venture aims to commercialize I’m greenTM bio-based polyethylene (PE), with the project currently nearing its final investment decision.
The new warehouse is expected to strengthen Braskem’s supply chain capabilities for I’m greenTM bio-based PE and EVA products by reducing transport distances to customers across Southeast Asia. Katoen Natie aims to enhance logistics performance, reduce lead times, and optimize inventory levels through this collaboration.
“Expanding our footprint in Asia will reinforce existing partnerships and enable us to cultivate deeper connections within the regional market. This partnership will contribute greatly to the optimization of our supply chain to support the manufacturing of bio-based products to customers worldwide,” said Roger Marchioni, Asia Olefins & Polyolefins Director and Global I’m greenTM bio-based Commercial Director.
Katoen Natie operates in more than 36 countries on five continents and has experience managing petrochemicals sustainably as well as operating within Singapore’s logistics sector. Braskem supplies both conventional plastics and sustainable solutions—including its I’m greenTM bio-based portfolio—to clients throughout Asia. These biopolymers are made from renewable resources like sugarcane and can be recycled using standard processes; they are designed as alternatives to traditional plastics that help lower carbon emissions.
Braskem employs nearly 8,000 people globally and operates 40 industrial units across Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and Germany. Its products reach clients in over 70 countries.
