Braskem has announced its support for TE Connectivity, a global manufacturer of connectivity and sensor solutions, in the development of more sustainable products for the electronics industry. TE Connectivity is now incorporating Braskem’s I’m greenTM bio-based materials into its heat shrink tubing products, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.

A recently published whitepaper by TE Connectivity, titled “Bio-Based Heat Shrink Tubing: Materials Innovation for Next-Generation Sealing and Protection of Electronic Components,” outlines the benefits of shifting from fossil-based to bio-based materials. The document explains that renewable polymers are increasingly being used in industries such as transportation, automotive, aerospace, and defense to meet regulatory requirements and customer demand for lower-carbon solutions.

The new BIOFUSE Tubing portfolio from TE Connectivity includes Bio-Innovation CAP (BICAP) and Bio-Innovation Splice Sealing (BISS) products made with plant-based polymers. These materials are derived from ethanol sourced from sugarcane, which absorbs CO² during growth. This approach helps lower the carbon footprint compared to traditional fossil feedstocks. According to a life cycle assessment covering production up to Braskem’s facilities, this switch significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

TE Connectivity reports that these bio-based tubes offer performance comparable to conventional options in terms of durability, flame retardancy, and electrical insulation. They also comply with standards such as UL224 and California Proposition 65.

“TE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability is at the heart of this development,” said Mohammed Nawaz, Director of Engineering, Performance Materials at TE Connectivity. “This whitepaper not only showcases our technical advancements but also reinforces our ongoing efforts in shaping a more sustainable future for electronics manufacturing.” The whitepaper can be downloaded on TE Connectivity’s website.

Braskem marks 15 years since launching its I’m greenTM bio-based brand. Over this period, it has established itself as a symbol of sustainable innovation by enabling customers to diversify raw material sources and adopt solutions that reduce carbon emissions without compromising performance.

Braskem operates 40 industrial units across Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and Germany. Its products reach clients in over 70 countries through a broad portfolio designed for sectors including packaging, construction, automotive, healthcare, agribusiness, hygiene, and manufacturing.

TE Connectivity employs more than 85,000 people globally—including 9,000 engineers—and serves customers in about 130 countries with technology aimed at advancing transportation systems, energy networks, automated factories, data centers, medical devices and other sectors.
