Sergio Peloc, a bus driver with 36 years of experience, celebrated his retirement on April 2, accompanied by his family and colleagues. At age 64, Peloc completed his final route as a driver for line 15 of the Santa Ana company.
Peloc’s retirement marks the end of a long career in public transportation. He said he was grateful to have been supported by his family throughout the years. “Today the day has finally come. I am super happy because I am with my mother and my family who never stopped supporting me,” Peloc said in an interview with Canal 7.
Peloc began working at age 22 in passenger transport in Capital Federal before moving through different sectors such as urban transit, tourism, and long-distance travel. His work allowed him to visit places like Santiago de Chile, Brazil, and southern Argentina. “My beginnings were very hard, but I got ahead. I always wanted to work long distance and I was able to achieve it,” he said.
In 2000, Peloc settled in Jujuy where he continued driving buses across various routes within the province and formed friendships with both colleagues and passengers along the way. “In the province I was lucky enough to work all routes. I made many friends,” he said.
He also noted that during his last days at work he received congratulations from many passengers and coworkers when they learned about his retirement plans: “Many passengers and colleagues congratulated me when they found out that I was going to retire. I’m leaving very happy.” Reflecting on his profession, Peloc described being a bus driver as rewarding yet stressful: “Being a bus driver is a very nice profession. It is also something stressful but you do things with love.” As advice for those starting out in transportation, he encouraged them: “Keep moving forward.”
