The SecretarĂa de Cultura de Jujuy announced on April 3 that the Capillas Musicales cycle will feature a concert this Easter Sunday, April 5, at 11 a.m. in the Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima in Purmamarca. The event will showcase DĂșo Sivila y Amigos performing a program of works by composers from Jujuy and Andean-rooted music to mark the spiritual significance of the date.
The ensemble is set to include instruments such as sikus, quena, quenacho, charango, guitar, double bass, and percussion. Organizers say the musical journey aims to connect with local landscapes and traditions while reflecting on themes of hope and renewal associated with Easter.
Admission to the concert is free. The initiative is supported by the Municipalidad de Purmamarca.
According to organizers, Capillas Musicales was launched by the SecretarĂa de Cultura de la Provincia de Jujuy in January 2025 with goals that include supporting chamber music development and promoting cultural heritage within parish communities across various provincial regions. Since its inception, more than 50 concerts have been held throughout all four provincial regions featuring both academic and popular repertoires performed by local chamber groups through instrumental and vocal music.
Historically, “Capilla Musical” refers to an institution or structure within churches or monasteries dedicated to organizing musical performances under a Maestro de Capilla during significant occasions.
