The Centro de Docentes de Enseñanza Media y Superior (Cedems) announced on April 7 a 24-hour strike with mobilization planned for Tuesday. The teachers’ union is joining forces with the grassroots educators of Adep, who will complete their second day of industrial action tomorrow.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Cedems and the provincial government. In a statement released Sunday, Cedems said: “Los docentes de Jujuy seguimos de pie, enfrentando el ajuste y peleando por un salario que esté a la altura de nuestras necesidades”.
Union representatives rejected what they describe as systematic attacks on their rights and accused officials of attempts to impose discipline through pressure tactics. “Cada descuento, cada apriete, es una muestra de un gobierno ajeno a los intereses de los trabajadores,” the statement continued.
The union emphasized that any truce in secondary schools has ended, signaling an escalation in labor actions. The call for mobilization highlights ongoing disputes over wages and working conditions within the education sector.
This coordinated action between Cedems and Adep marks a significant development in local labor relations as both unions demand improved pay and protection of their rights.
