Daniela Vélez, a deputy from the Justicialist Party, was named president of the Environment Commission in the Jujuy Legislature on April 9. In her first meeting leading the commission, Vélez said that an agenda with many projects had been set and emphasized her commitment to working together with all legislative blocs to create effective laws for the province.
Vélez described it as “an honor” to preside over a commission that addresses issues important to residents of Jujuy. She said, “Those who are part of this commission will not only contribute bills but also proposals and everything necessary for debate in the chamber to achieve tools aimed at protecting the ecosystem.”
She highlighted that alongside provincial government interest in environmental matters, “the Legislature has also been working on this issue. This commission in previous terms demonstrated commendable work in this regard; we are a pioneering province in environmental matters, so we will continue and deepen that line.” The vice presidency of the commission is held by Miriam Burgos (FJC), with Martín Fellner (PJ) serving as secretary. Other members include Omar Gutiérrez, Mario Lobo, Angélica Castillo, Sofía Ternavasio, Natalia Morales, Claudia Sánchez Cantaberta, Kevin Ballesty, Iván Poncio and Estela Ríos.
Vélez stated she would dedicate more time to her work to address topics she has previously worked on: “Fieldwork goes hand-in-hand; I will not stop being present and listening to people from Jujuy so I can legislate on their behalf,” she said.
The appointment signals ongoing efforts within both provincial government and legislature toward advancing environmental policy initiatives.
