Defensores de Yuto and Atlético San Pedro were crowned champions of the Copa de Campeones “Carnaval de Goles-Gobierno de Jujuy” on April 12. The finals took place at the La Tablada stadium, with Defensores de Yuto winning the under-16 category by defeating Defensores de Belgrano 6-1, while Atlético San Pedro secured the under-14 title after a penalty shootout victory over Talleres de Perico.
The tournament brought together teams from across Jujuy province, providing young athletes an opportunity to compete at a high level. Normando Álvarez García, Minister of Government, Justice, Human Rights and Labor, said after the awards ceremony that “we met expectations; we continue to grow with sports throughout the province,” adding that “it was a very federal cup since teams from Tilcara, San Pedro, Yuto and Los Valles reached the finals.”
Álvarez García also highlighted Governor Carlos Sadir’s ongoing support for youth sports development: “to continue developing sports at all ages, as players under 14 and under 16 participated here.” Luis Calvetti, Secretary of Sports, said that “it was a very nice tournament; it is the second consecutive year and we hope this cup will have many more editions because we know the benefits it brings to our youth divisions.”
Calvetti further acknowledged Sadir’s encouragement: “who pushes us to redouble efforts, reach every corner of the province and bring this fundamental tool for our society which is sport.” He also thanked Julio Bravo, president of Federación Jujeña de Fútbol for his cooperation in organizing the event and Liga Jujeña authorities for providing use of La Tablada stadium.
In match results: In under-16s play Defensores de Yuto (Liga Regional) defeated Defensores de Belgrano (Liga Quebradeña) with goals scored by Ignacio Palacio, M. Villafañe, Agüero, Rosa (twice), and Valentino Palacios; Paco scored via penalty for Defensores de Belgrano. In under-14s action Atlético San Pedro beat Talleres on penalties (4-2) after regulation ended scoreless.
The awards ceremony included participation from provincial deputy Mario Lobo; Leandro Calvetti (Director of Youth Sports); Julio Bravo; Adrián Montalvo (Municipal Sports Coordinator); Elías Sanabria (Secretary of Finance), and Gonzalo Duarte (Sports Director) from Yuto municipality.
