The Minister of Education, Daniela Teseira, and the Secretary of Energy, Mario Pizarro, met at the Ministerial Complex to define the 2026 guidelines for educational policies that promote responsible energy use in schools.
Minister Teseira emphasized the need to align plans and projects with the priority policy of inclusive education. She also highlighted the importance of understanding their social impact on educational communities.
During the meeting, participants discussed possible updates to the “El Saber Ilumina” contest, which will mark its fourth edition this year. Secretary Pizarro explained that this initiative aims to raise awareness about responsible energy use, especially electricity, and encourage energy efficiency. He stated: “There is no energy more expensive than that which is unavailable, as it forces the State to purchase it on the international market.”
Pizarro also pointed out that the contest helps students transfer what they learn about energy conservation to their families and communities beyond school. He noted a positive impact from improved energy-saving practices in educational institutions.
The officials reviewed the Renovando Energías program, which was implemented in 2025 in institutions focused on education within detention settings. The program included training related to research, recycling, and production of various items as a strategy for developing entrepreneurship aimed at social reintegration.
To conclude, both officials agreed on “the importance of continuing to strengthen inter-ministerial work as a key tool for designing and implementing comprehensive public policies that foster a citizenry committed to responsible use of energy resources and contribute to sustainable development with positive effects both in education and society as a whole.”
