The Ministry of Education announced on March 20 the procedures for offering and filling teaching positions in Initial and Primary education levels for the 2026 academic year.
This information is important for teachers and educational staff as it details how positions will be assigned, ensuring transparency and adherence to current regulations. The process begins in December with registration and ranking of candidates through the Single Order of Merit List (LUOM).
To ensure that teachers receive their mandated 45 days of rest, the first round of general position offerings took place from February 18 to February 23 at the provincial level, held at the Board of Teacher Qualification (Hogar Escuela). Regional offerings followed from March 9 to March 13, also managed by the Board.
If any positions remain unfilled or new ones are added, further offerings will continue through Zonal Supervisions every Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon from March until December. The order for assigning positions prioritizes teachers registered in LUOM without a current position, then tenured teachers seeking a second position, followed by new teachers not yet registered with the Board.
The Ministry said that all available positions will be offered until the list is exhausted. It called on both LUOM-registered teachers and new graduates with qualifying degrees to attend these sessions, stating that everyone will have an opportunity to obtain a position as merit rankings progress.
