A working session was held to assess the progress of the MATTEO Project in the province and to plan actions for its further development during the current school year. The meeting brought together teams from Water Resources, the Technical-Pedagogical Team of the Coordination of Healthy School Environments, and representatives from the Secretariat of Educational Management.
The session was led by Carolina Lui Saravia, director of Early Childhood Education. She welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of continuing to develop initiatives that support educational institutions from early childhood, promoting healthier and safer school environments. “It is important to continue building proposals that accompany institutions from the earliest years, promoting healthier and more caring school environments,” said Lui Saravia.
The MATTEO Project (Automatic Monitoring of Weather in the Troposphere in Schools and Organizations) is an educational, scientific, and outreach initiative implemented in public and private schools at all levels. By installing automatic measurement stations, real-time meteorological data is collected. This allows educators to teach about environmental care and responsible use of water resources while strengthening scientific learning from a young age.
During the initial part of the meeting, progress made by kindergartens across the province was discussed based on concrete experiences within these institutions. The exchange highlighted ongoing work, allowed for analysis of its impact, and aimed to strengthen collaboration among involved areas.
Participants included MarÃa José Gloss from the Coordination of Healthy School Environments as well as Marta Pereira and Cecilia Coronel representing Water Resources. They provided technical tools and outlined work strategies focused on water conservation and environmental protection within educational settings.
In a subsequent session, attendees worked on establishing agreements and joint actions intended to reinforce implementation of the MATTEO Project throughout the year. The goal is to expand its reach and solidify practices that encourage healthy habits from an early age.
These collaborative efforts demonstrate a commitment by Ministry of Education departments to comprehensive education based on continuous support for schools through public policies developed with dialogue at a local level.
