The family of police officer Marisol Rocha called for justice and asked for witnesses to come forward with information about the recent accident on National Route 9 that left Rocha critically injured and hospitalized, according to an April 6 statement.
The case has drawn attention because Rocha remains in intensive care and unconscious since the incident. Her relatives said she was on her way to work on her motorcycle, wearing a helmet, when another driver began honking at her and allegedly brushed against her, causing her to fall hard onto the road. “She was wearing a helmet, as required. She was always very careful when driving. A person started rushing her by honking the horn, and in a maneuver apparently brushed against her, causing her to fall violently onto the asphalt,” Rocha’s sister said.
Due to the impact, Rocha suffered severe injuries. “She is in critical condition, unconscious since the moment of the accident. All we want is justice,” added another family member. The family also reported that while they believe the driver involved has been identified, there have not yet been significant developments in the investigation. “We know who it is but do not want to give details because it is under investigation. We want this not to go unpunished,” they said.
They urged anyone who witnessed anything related to the incident to provide information that could help clarify what happened: “We ask anyone who saw something to provide information. That could be key in clarifying what happened.” The family’s lawyer stated that they had only recently begun working on the case and had not yet accessed judicial records: “The information we have is preliminary and comes from what was provided by Police. So far, the only version is from the driver involved.” He also noted doubts about this account: “Given how Marisol drove and characteristics of this area, it seems strange what has been claimed. That’s why more evidence—testimonies and forensic reports—is essential,” he said.
According to legal counsel for Rocha’s family, their immediate goal is access case files so they can determine if charges have been filed or review actions taken by forensic investigators: “We need to know how things really happened; we will gather all possible information so as advance with investigation.” Meanwhile,
the family continues its call for justice while awaiting progress in official proceedings: “We will not give up; we want whoever responsible pays—and truth be known,” they concluded.
