The family of Bastián Jerez said on April 10 that the eight-year-old boy has shown positive progress in his recovery following a serious accident in Pinamar in January. The child remains hospitalized after suffering severe injuries in the incident.
Bastián’s mother, Macarena Collantes, shared that a recent scan revealed a reduction in the size of his brain ventricles and confirmed there is no longer blood present in that area. “We received news that fills our souls with hope,” she said through social media.
Collantes also explained that her son’s abdomen is showing signs of improvement after his latest surgery. Bastián underwent another operation due to new intestinal complications and has now had more than ten surgeries since the accident.
Despite these favorable developments, Bastián continues to be closely monitored by medical specialists who are assessing his response to treatment before deciding on next steps. The family expressed gratitude for public support and asked people to continue praying for him.
Bastián was injured on January 12 when the UTV vehicle he was riding collided head-on with a Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck in an area known for heavy recreational vehicle traffic. He suffered severe head trauma and internal injuries as a result of the crash.
The legal investigation into the incident is ongoing, with three individuals charged with aggravated negligent injury: the driver of the Amarok, the person operating the UTV, and Bastián’s father.
