A federal court appointed Ricardo Villada as the new overseer of the Justicialist Party (PJ) in Jujuy on Apr. 9, replacing previous national interventors and tasking him with reorganizing the party amid ongoing internal disputes.
The intervention comes after a period of instability within the PJ Jujuy, where local leadership struggled to resolve internal conflicts without resorting to legal proceedings. The court has given Villada 180 days to restore institutional order, ensure proper party functioning, and call for internal elections under judicial supervision. He is required to submit biweekly reports during this process.
Villada previously served as Minister of Government in Salta under Governor Gustavo Sáenz until December. His appointment follows earlier interventions by AnÃbal Fernández and Gustavo Menéndez, who were assigned in July 2023 due to tensions over support for constitutional reforms led by then-Governor Gerardo Morales. The PJ National Board extended their mandate for another year but continued discord led to further actions.
In January, Fernández and Menéndez suspended Carolina Moisés, Rubén Rivarola, Guillermo Jenefes, and about 300 other members for “party misconduct” after they participated in October 2025 elections with lists outside official party structures.
Senator Carolina Moisés welcomed Villada’s appointment as a form of vindication following her suspension. The latest intervention is expected to have significant effects on the party’s representation in the Senate as Moisés prepares her departure from the bloc.
