The 148th Assembly of the Federal Education Council (CFE) took place on December 16 at the Palacio Sarmiento in Buenos Aires, bringing together education ministers from across Argentina. Miriam Serrano, Minister of Education of Jujuy, participated alongside her counterparts from other jurisdictions.

The assembly addressed the 2026 agenda, focusing on ongoing educational policies with particular attention to literacy, continuous teacher training, and the Annual Survey of Educational Personnel (ReNPE).

A key outcome was the approval of a document for discussion regarding the Federal Commitment to Mathematics. This initiative aims to strengthen fundamental mathematics learning in compulsory education. The strategy is based on a critical assessment of current teaching and learning in mathematics and outlines an integrated approach targeting the later years of primary school and the early years of secondary school.

The main components include context-based teaching, ongoing teacher development, and new pedagogical materials. The goal is to support sustained changes in teaching practices and expand educational opportunities nationwide.

Paula Campos, head of the Literacy Unit, presented progress made two years after adopting a national literacy policy. She highlighted efforts within Alfa en Red Schools and noted that over 1,000 supervisors have received training through six regional meetings, concluding in Jujuy province. Campos also emphasized the Teacher Training Program in Literacy – Ateneos and announced plans to expand it by including third-grade teachers.

The National Institute for Teacher Training (INFoD) introduced a draft resolution for the National Program for Permanent Training (PNFP) as well as new higher-level pathways designed to deepen knowledge acquired during initial teacher education. These are intended for teachers at all levels: early childhood, primary, secondary, and multidisciplinary areas.

Additionally, the Undersecretariat for Educational Information and Evaluation provided updates on evaluation operations conducted during 2025. Jurisdictions were called upon to play an active role in the second stage of ReNPE.
