The foundation Corazones Azules TEA participated on April 2 in a ceremony and parade held in Palpalá to mark World Autism Awareness Day, joining the commemoration of Veterans and Fallen Soldiers of Malvinas. The organization aimed to highlight the importance of inclusion and respect for neurodiversity during the event.
This topic matters as it seeks to raise community awareness about autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and foster empathy toward children with ASD in schools and other public spaces. By taking part in public commemorations, families hope to make their children’s experiences more visible within society.
Irene González, a mother who recently joined the foundation, said they attended the patriotic event “to make our children visible, so that the community has empathy at school and in different spaces.” González also said that while families and the foundation support children with ASD through various therapies and assistance programs, there is an ongoing need for greater solidarity within society.
“My son is lucky to have very supportive and affectionate classmates, but we must continue insisting that parents teach their children respect and help them integrate,” González said.
The participation of Corazones Azules TEA reflects ongoing efforts by families to advocate for inclusive environments. Their involvement underscores a broader movement encouraging communities to be more empathetic toward people with neurodiverse conditions.
