Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy has emerged as the leader of the tournament under coach Hernán Pellerano, according to an April 8 report. The team not only tops the standings with a strong performance but has also become known for a trend in which three opposing coaches have left their positions after facing Gimnasia this season.
This development is notable because it highlights how Gimnasia’s victories have contributed to coaching changes at other clubs. With 15 points and only two losses so far, the team has established itself as a tough opponent, often intensifying existing problems for its rivals.
The pattern began in the third round when Gimnasia defeated Quilmes 1-0. At that time, Alfredo Grelak was managing Quilmes and was already under scrutiny due to earlier results. The loss against Gimnasia led to his departure from the club.
A similar situation occurred soon after during an away match against Chaco For Ever. Gimnasia won 2-1 at Estadio Juan Alberto García, deepening Chaco For Ever’s crisis and resulting in Ricardo Pancaldo leaving his role as coach after failing to secure any wins in the competition.
Most recently, Rubén Forestello ended his third term with Patronato following their 2-0 defeat by Gimnasia at Estadio 23 de Agosto. This continued trend shows that teams struggling before meeting Gimnasia often see coaching changes immediately afterward.
As Pellerano’s squad remains at the top of Primera Nacional, they are building a reputation not just for winning games but also for influencing decisions on rival benches.
