Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy is set to play against Patronato de Paraná on April 4, with the match scheduled for Sunday at 5:00 p.m. as part of the eighth round of Primera Nacional. The Argentine Football Association has appointed Federico Benítez from Salta as the referee, a decision that has drawn attention in the Luján neighborhood.

Benítez’s name is familiar to Gimnasia fans due to his role as fourth official during a previous match against Deportivo Madryn in the 2025 Reducido, which ended in controversy when Lucas Comesaña suspended play at halftime. During that incident, Benítez was accused of making discriminatory remarks toward a ball boy amid broader complaints about how the officiating team handled the suspension. The matter later reached ordinary courts, which dismissed all allegations related to threats.

On the sporting side, Gimnasia will be without Nicolás Dematei, who is serving his second and final game suspension. The central defense pairing is expected to consist of Córdoba and Cosaro again as they aim to address defensive issues seen during their recent win in Chaco. Head coach Hernán Pellerano has indicated there may be changes but has not provided specifics.

The match will be broadcast on LPF Play and represents an important test for Gimnasia both on the field and in handling an officiating team with a notable history at Estadio 23 de Agosto.
