The president of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy, Walter Morales, said on April 11 that the club’s board is seriously considering ending the contract of player Emiliano Endrizzi. This follows Endrizzi’s detention at Dr. Horacio Guzmán Airport over an alleged bomb threat on Saturday afternoon.
Morales said in an interview with radio La Red that the club held an urgent meeting with its legal team and leadership to discuss how to respond to the incident and determine a formal position before authorities. He stressed that Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy bears no responsibility for Endrizzi’s individual actions during the team’s travel.
“A player who was on duty representing an institution that is very important at the national level,” Morales said, emphasizing that protecting the reputation of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy is a top priority for management. Morales also stated that in today’s global context “no type of these jokes” about security can be tolerated, even if it started as a joke.
The event took place inside an airplane scheduled to transport the team to Buenos Aires for their match in round nine of Primera Nacional. Security protocols were immediately activated, leading to evacuation of all passengers and staff from the terminal.
After about one hour, specialized personnel found no explosives and reopened the airport. However, Endrizzi remains detained while Gimnasia has made itself available for any judicial requirements related to the case. The club’s legal department has intervened following cancellation of their original flight.
While waiting for further official statements or possibly a press conference from club officials in coming hours, Morales confirmed that arrangements have been made so other players could travel and play against Agropecuario as scheduled this Sunday. The future status of defender Emiliano Endrizzi within Gimnasia remains under review.
