Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy won 2-0 against Patronato at the Estadio 23 de Agosto on April 5, moving to the top of Zone B alongside Tristán Suárez. The goals were scored by Guillermo Cosaro in the first half and Hugo Soria in stoppage time.
The match was important as it allowed Gimnasia to reach 15 points and claim the lead in their group. Despite securing victory, questions remain about the team’s defensive transitions.
During the game, both teams had opportunities, with midfield play often open and direct. Cosaro gave Gimnasia an early advantage at minute 17 after heading in a cross from Minervino. However, Patronato missed several chances to equalize, including a key defensive intervention by Cosaro that prevented a likely goal.
In the second half, Gimnasia played more defensively while Patronato controlled possession but lacked attacking depth. The situation changed when Patronato’s Piccioni was sent off late in the match. Soria then secured victory for Gimnasia with a long-range shot in added time.
The team has now won all its home matches this season with five goals scored and two conceded. Next, they will travel to face Agropecuario Argentino on Sunday at 16:00 hours.
Coaching staff acknowledge there is still work needed on defensive balance but see leading Zone B as an ideal scenario for improvement.
