Governor Carlos Sadir of Jujuy announced on Apr. 2 a new decree aimed at controlling and optimizing public spending in response to the province’s challenging economic situation.
Sadir said the main goal is to improve efficiency in the use of public funds. “We issued a decree where we are proposing control over expenses,” he said, explaining that the measure seeks to organize finances and address falling revenues.
“Today, the first thing that must be done is to make spending more efficient, to see how state expenditures can be optimized,” Sadir said. However, he noted there are limits to budget cuts in certain areas: “There are expenses that cannot be postponed, that must be made no matter what, because they relate to essential services such as health, education and security.”
The governor said this strategy aims for fiscal balance without affecting state operations or public services during a period when tax collection is showing signs of decline.
Sadir also expressed hope for an improvement in economic conditions. “While we seek greater efficiency in spending, we also hope the economy recovers and gives us some relief in terms of income,” he said.
The measure forms part of broader efforts by provincial authorities to sustain finances under reduced revenue and increased demands on government resources.
