A new group of 12 people with disabilities and their families have joined the “Paso a paso para un gran cambio” program at the Centro Modelo Integral de Rehabilitación (CEMIR) in Alto Comedero, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Health of Jujuy. The initiative began on November 12 and is focused on providing comprehensive support for overweight and obesity.

The “Paso a paso” strategy, part of the Plan Estratégico de Salud II, is recognized nationally within the public sector for its interdisciplinary approach to treating individuals with morbid obesity or obesity throughout all stages of life. The program aims to address health risks associated with these conditions, which can lead to physical, emotional, and social challenges. Currently, there are 31 active groups working in Jujuy’s capital city as well as other towns across the province.

At CEMIR, along with support from the Dr. Carlos Jure Rehabilitation Center team, participants aged between 18 and 70 years old who have motor or mild cognitive disabilities engage in physical activities three times per week. In addition, they attend biweekly workshops covering nutrition, mental health, and kinesiology.
