The Ministry of Health in Jujuy announced that the first two organ and tissue donation procedures of 2026 were successfully carried out at Hospital Pablo Soria in San Salvador de Jujuy. One of these procedures involved multiple organs.
According to the ministry, the operations were made possible through the efforts of medical professionals, administrative staff, logistics teams, SAME 107 emergency personnel, security staff, and most importantly, community members who chose to donate. The ministry stated: “The procedures were carried out thanks to the work of ablative professionals and agents from administrative, logistical areas, SAME 107 and security and especially for the solidarity vocation of the community since donating organs allows recovery opportunities for people on transplant waiting lists.”
CUCAIJUY, which is part of Argentina’s national transplant coordination system INCUCAI, oversees organ donation activities in Jujuy. This includes ensuring compliance with protocols and standards, organizing each donation operation, coordinating between public and private sectors, ongoing training programs, public awareness campaigns, and since late 2024 facilitating kidney transplants within the province’s public health system.
The ministry emphasized that increasing organ donations improves recovery chances and quality of life for patients with critical health conditions. It noted: “The possibilities of recovery and quality of life for people who go through critical health situations multiply with shared commitment because without donors there is no transplant.” The statement also referenced Argentina’s “Justina Law” passed in 2018 as a key factor supporting progress in this area.
