The Ministry of Health of Jujuy has announced ongoing efforts at Hospital Pablo Soria to provide comprehensive care for patients with chronic kidney disease across the province. This initiative follows a September 2025 agreement with the National Central Institute for the Coordination of Ablation and Implant (INCUCAI), which enabled Jujuy to join the Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Program (ERCA). The hospital’s nephrology service acts as the main point of reference for this program.
MarÃa Graciela Palczewicz, coordinator of the Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic (CERCA), stated, “Currently we have 11 patients with renal insufficiency in stage 3b or higher, meaning people with moderate to severe loss of kidney function. Once a person is identified, we can organize treatment or entry into preventive transplantation, waiting list, or renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis.”
Palczewicz added, “Hospital Pablo Soria offers this clinic every Tuesday, staffed by a team of nephrologists who provide follow-up with protected appointments, early assistance and evaluation from all specialties. This means a multidisciplinary approach together with cardiology, endocrinology, nutrition, mental health, social work and others.” She also emphasized that “once their disease is recognized, people know what their progression and prognosis will be. This fundamentally avoids reaching critical or emergency situations especially in emergency rooms.”
The CERCA clinic accepts referrals from across the province. Chronic kidney disease is often linked to conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Palczewicz concluded: “Early detection of people with progressive renal failure and timely referral allows for complete follow-up. That means tools for the individual, family and close environment—with information and records—for different results in daily life and quality of life.”
