Instagram announced on Apr. 10 a new feature that allows users to edit comments on posts, responding to longstanding requests from users who wanted to correct mistakes without deleting and rewriting their messages. The update is being rolled out gradually worldwide.

The main aspect of the new tool is that comments can only be edited within the first 15 minutes after being posted. During this period, users can make as many changes as they wish, but the time limit does not reset with each edit.

To use the function, users need to tap the ‘Edit’ option below their published comment, make the desired changes, and confirm by pressing the verification button. After confirmation, the updated comment will appear on the post.

Instagram also said that edited comments will be marked as ‘edited.’ However, other users will not have access to previous versions or a change history of those comments.

The company stated that this new feature aims to improve conversational experiences on its platform and prevent users from having to delete entire comments due to simple spelling errors or last-minute changes of opinion. With this update, Instagram adds a function already available in other messaging and social media platforms as Meta continues introducing features designed to strengthen user interaction.
