Popular social and messaging apps such as Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and X are among the main contributors to battery drain on iPhones, according to a March 30 announcement. These applications often continue running processes in the background even when not actively used, which can lead to faster depletion of battery life.
The issue of limited battery duration remains a challenge for many iPhone users. While Apple’s operating system is designed to manage resources efficiently, certain frequently used apps require constant connectivity for real-time updates. This ongoing activity means that these platforms can consume significant energy without being visible on screen.
To help users identify which applications are using the most power, it is recommended to access Settings and select Battery. Within this section, the ‘Battery Usage by App’ feature displays the percentage of energy each application consumes. Users can also see whether consumption occurs while an app is active or running in the background.
To reduce unnecessary background activity and extend device autonomy, users are advised to go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and disable this function for apps that do not need continuous operation. The announcement notes that limiting this update does not stop important notifications but may delay new content from appearing immediately.
Additional tips provided include lowering screen brightness or enabling automatic brightness adjustment; keeping Wi-Fi enabled in areas with strong coverage since it uses less power than mobile data; updating iOS regularly; using Low Power Mode when away from a charger; opting for Apple-certified chargers and cables; and ensuring devices charge in ventilated spaces away from heat sources or thick cases that retain warmth.
These measures aim to help iPhone owners maximize their device’s battery life through simple adjustments.
