Authorities from the Instituto de Seguros de Jujuy (ISJ) and the Medical Council of Jujuy held a meeting to define new criteria for the payment of specialist medical consultations. The updated system will apply to healthcare professionals who can prove their training and certification in their specialty.

The meeting included José Manzur, president of ISJ; Diego Eduardo Chacón and Ezequiel Vega, board members; Sarahi Molina, health manager; Dr. Sergio Fabián Barrera Ruiz representing the Colegio Médico de Jujuy; and Ciro Villagra from the Ministry of Finance.

Under an agreement with professional associations, ISJ has implemented new rates for outpatient medical consultations as of Monday, November 3. The system now features two separate registries: one for specialists and another for non-specialists. These lists are created and validated by the Medical Council of Jujuy.

José Manzur stated that this measure “seeks to support medical professionals who train and obtain their specialty, but also the affiliate, who will have the guarantee of knowing if the professional they consult is properly certified.” He added that the specialists’ registry will be updated monthly as more doctors certify their training. Affiliates can check this information via digital credentials, ISJ’s website, or through the Medical Council.

Dr. Sergio Fabián Barrera Ruiz noted progress on recognizing professionals who invest time and resources in ongoing education. He said that differentiation “is a way to reward effort and commitment to continuous training while ensuring better quality care for patients.”

Barrera Ruiz recalled that in 2010 only 17% of physicians in Jujuy were certified as specialists, whereas by 2025 this figure had risen to 48%. He emphasized that doctors are eager to gain new knowledge both for personal development and improved patient care.

Manzur concluded by stating that the agreement between ISJ and the Medical Council “represents progress in elevating the medical profession and transparency towards affiliates, who will have up-to-date information about Institute providers.”
