Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado (JEMSE) has outlined its approach to managing the province’s natural resources, emphasizing that resource administration is a means to achieve economic growth and autonomy for local residents. The company describes itself as a strategic tool of the provincial government, aiming to transform energy and mining potential into economic development.
JEMSE highlights its focus on management, transparency, and collaboration with the private sector as key factors in building a productive ecosystem. According to the company, this approach has resulted in significant milestones for Jujuy.
Employment generation is cited as one of the most direct impacts of JEMSE’s activities. The company reports creating over 1,200 direct jobs and nearly 1,000 indirect jobs in the mining sector. Priority in hiring is given to local residents, including members of indigenous communities.
The lithium industry and renewable energy projects are described as important drivers for the local economy. Over the past year, JEMSE states it has significantly increased purchases from local suppliers and community businesses. This initiative supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), logistics providers, transporters, and merchants within Jujuy.
On sustainability efforts, JEMSE points to several initiatives:
– The deployment of 48 megawatts of distributed solar energy across various locations in the province.
– Investments in new Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technologies aimed at optimizing production while ensuring responsible water use.
– Leading waste management agreements in Susques department alongside community partners.
In terms of education and training, JEMSE collaborates with the Faculty of Engineering at UNJu to offer professional internships within its projects. Additionally, more than 700 residents from Puna have participated in vocational training programs, language courses, and higher education scholarships supported by JEMSE.
The company also notes its role as the first state-owned enterprise in Argentina to join a productive project under the new Large Investment Regime (RIGI). It has established a Lithium Extraction Workshop-School in Palpalá focused on research and value addition at source. These initiatives are developed with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which helps ensure adherence to international standards for transparency and governance.
“Each project we promote from JEMSE represents a direct economic injection for the province. Our work strengthens Jujuy’s autonomy and ensures that our wealth is cared for by guaranteeing that resources are managed strategically so that growth benefits remain at home, building a future for all people of Jujuy,” said Exequiel José Lello Ivacevich, Vice President at Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado.
