The province of Jujuy announced on Apr. 2 a schedule of cultural events and religious celebrations to take place from April 2 to April 8, covering various towns including Yavi, Tilcara, Humahuaca, and others.

The agenda is centered around the Holy Week observances such as Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. These events are important for both spiritual reflection and community participation across Jujuy.

In Yavi, the Triduum begins with the Mass of the Last Supper at San Francisco de Asís Church at 8:00 a.m., followed by traditional rituals. Humahuaca will hold similar religious ceremonies alongside a maize products fair and dance performances in Plaza Sgto. Gómez. Palpalá will commemorate Veterans Day with a civic-military parade in Plaza Héroes de Malvinas at 3:00 p.m.

Good Friday features processions in Yavi starting at 7:00 p.m., liturgical actions at 8:00 p.m., and four consecutive processions through the town’s streets. In Tilcara, activities begin before dawn with an ascent of the Virgin of Sixilera at 6:00 a.m., culminating in an evening Via Crucis among local shrines. Other towns such as Maimará, El Carmen, San Salvador de Jujuy, San Pedro de Jujuy, Purmamarca, Abra Pampa, Santa Ana, Uquía and El Fuerte will host their own fairs or music events throughout the week.

Saturday’s program includes festivals like Santa Ana’s Festival del Asado de Cordero a la Estaca and Doma y Pialada from early morning hours. Artisans’ fairs are planned in El Fuerte while musical performances continue across several locations into Saturday night.

On Easter Sunday (April 5), Tilcara holds its main mass followed by processions accompanied by sikuri bands; other towns offer concerts or family-oriented Easter fairs during the day. The UNJU Choir opens auditions for new members on Tuesday evening at Casa de las Culturas.

The week’s programming reflects both deep spiritual traditions tied to the liturgical calendar as well as popular festivities that bring together communities through music and local culture.
