The province of Jujuy is preparing for its 2026 carnival season with an official calendar that extends the festivities from late January through early March. The schedule features a mix of traditional events and opportunities for community participation.
The celebrations begin on January 22 with “Jueves de Padrinos,” followed by “Jueves de Ahijados” on January 29, “Jueves de Compadres” on February 5, and “Jueves de Comadres” on February 12. These preliminary gatherings are designed to build anticipation and allow different groups within the community to host their own celebrations before the main events.
Key highlights include the Carnavales de Los Tekis, taking place from February 13 to 16, and the Carnaval Grande from February 14 to 16. Both serve as central components of the festival period. Another significant date is Martes de Chaya on February 17, which holds special meaning in Andean culture. Additional events include Carnaval Chico on February 21, Carnaval de Flores on February 28, and Carnaval de Remache concluding the cycle on March 7.
According to organizers, this extended calendar aims to blend local traditions with inclusive spaces for collective celebration.
