Six new organ harvesting procedures were recently carried out in Jujuy, according to the province’s Ministry of Health. Three of these procedures took place at Hospital Pablo Soria, two at Hospital San Roque, and one in the private sector. With these latest operations, the total number of such procedures in Jujuy during 2025 has reached 73.

Each organ harvesting operation involves coordinated efforts between specialized medical teams, each institution’s Ablation and Transplant Unit, and the Central Single Coordinator of Ablation and Implant of Jujuy (CUCAIJUY). The process also requires administrative work and operating room tasks. These activities aim to increase opportunities for patients who need transplants to achieve a better quality of life. The ministry highlighted that organ donation is a community-driven act supported by national legislation.

At the national level, Argentina has set a record for organ and tissue donations this year. According to data presented at the most recent Federal Health Council (COFESA) meeting in 2025, there have been 906 organ and tissue donation processes so far—surpassing pre-pandemic numbers from 2019 when there were 883 such procedures. In addition, there have been 1,242 tissue harvesting processes nationwide this year, up from 1,156 in 2024.

Minister of Health for Jujuy Gustavo Bouhid offered an official acknowledgment to Dr. Carlos Soratti following his announcement that he would retire from public service and step down as president of the National Central Single Coordinator Institute for Ablation and Implant (INCUCAI).

“The Dr. Carlos Soratti has marked a fundamental path in public policy on donation and transplantation in Argentina. His commitment, his career and his vision were key to strengthening the system at the federal level. In Jujuy he visited us many times, always recognizing our teams’ work and the position achieved by the province. His legacy is part of this highly positive national balance,” said Minister Bouhid.
