The government of Jujuy announced on April 1 the upcoming construction of the Colector Cloacal Alto Comedero – Palpalá, a major sanitation project expected to connect southern sectors of the capital with Palpalá. The new collector will extend approximately four kilometers and aims to address long-standing demands for improved sanitation in these areas.
Officials said this project is significant because it will provide sewage services to neighborhoods that currently lack them, including Barrio 10 Hectáreas in Alto Comedero, ODIJ, 10 Hectáreas de Palpalá, and U.P.C.N. The design is intended to accommodate population growth through the year 2048.
The formal presentation of the project took place on March 30 during a meeting attended by many neighborhood representatives. The event was led by Juan Carlos García, president of Agua Potable de Jujuy; Luis Jure, technical board member; Gastón Millón, president of the City Council; and councilman Néstor Barrios. Technical teams provided details about the scope of work and reminded residents about necessary internal adjustments for proper connection to the new system.
In addition to installing high-resistance PVC pipes (315mm and 355mm in diameter), there will be work in Barrio U.P.C.N., where canalization using gabions and mattresses will be implemented to prevent erosion affecting roads and existing networks. This measure seeks to ensure stability for both terrain and urban infrastructure.
According to officials, about 24 workers are expected to be directly employed during construction. The project is entering its bidding phase now with work scheduled to begin within the next 45 days.
