The Government of Jujuy announced on April 3 that a coordinated operation was carried out to ensure the safety and normal development of the religious pilgrimage to Cerro de la Cruz. Multiple agencies participated in this effort, which aimed to provide continuous assistance and maintain order throughout the event.
The significance of this operation lies in its focus on protecting public safety during an event that draws large crowds, highlighting the province’s ability to manage mass gatherings while respecting local traditions.
According to officials, the General Directorate of Emergencies led a security and prevention plan from early in the day, turning the area into a safe corridor for pilgrims. The operation involved several sectors: provincial police, road safety units, municipal traffic departments, civil defense teams, provincial firefighters along with volunteer corps from Alto Comedero and San Florián. Health services were provided by SAME personnel stationed at key points for immediate response.
Efforts centered on safeguarding attendees’ physical well-being. Tasks included organizing vehicle traffic at entry points, providing medical assistance during ascents, and offering support measures for people moving through crowded conditions.
“El objetivo fue asegurar que la manifestación de fe se viviera en un entorno ordenado y cuidado,” said representatives from Civil Defense. They emphasized teamwork between provincial and municipal authorities as essential for delivering quick responses when needed.
Officials say that with such comprehensive operations Jujuy demonstrates its logistical capacity to handle large-scale events while prioritizing citizen safety and upholding local customs.
