The Government of Jujuy announced on Apr. 7 the postponement of repayment schedules for loans granted to small tobacco producers, in response to a reduction in resources from the Special Tobacco Fund (FET).
This decision is intended to support small-scale growers who have not yet completed delivering their harvests to collection centers, while only partial FET funds have been received. The measure covers both beneficiaries of the Fertilizer Program and those who accessed credits through collaboration with the Microenterprise Council.
Juan Carlos Abud, Minister of Economic Development and Production, said, “We understand the context that producers are going through and that is why we decided to postpone these repayments, to give them greater predictability and ease their financial burden at a key moment in the campaign.” He added that more than 300 small producers across the province have benefited from these policies aimed at sustained support for the tobacco sector.
Meanwhile, Jujuy’s Provincial Coordinating Unit—which includes representatives from the Cooperative of Tobacco Growers of Jujuy, the Chamber of Tobacco, and the Ministry—has already submitted assistance programs for the upcoming 2026/2027 season to Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture. These programs are intended for all tobacco producers in Jujuy.
Abud said further: “We are working together with all actors in the chain to ensure resources arrive on time. Our goal is for producers to have what they need as they begin next season with predictability and continue supporting an activity that is key for our province’s economy.”
The provincial government also awaits national approval for subcomponents corresponding to 2025 so necessary resources can be made available before planting begins in August. This aims to facilitate productive investments ahead of next season.
