The Government of Jujuy announced on Apr. 4 the reopening of a civil registry office in the town of Yavi, located more than 300 kilometers from San Salvador de Jujuy and at an altitude of 3,516 meters above sea level. The new office, part of a public policy led by Governor Carlos Sadir, aims to guarantee equal access and strengthen state presence across the province.
Officials say this move is part of a broader strategy focused on decentralizing services and strengthening institutions in remote communities. The Yavi branch will offer all standard civil registration services and operate Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., serving over 271 residents directly and potentially reaching more than 20,000 people throughout the region.
Fabiana Churquina has been appointed as head of the new registry after completing an oral, written, and background-based selection process.
Luis Condori, municipal commissioner for Yavi who attended with other local officials and community members at the opening event said: “Esto es hacer patria.
After the ceremony local authorities invited guests to visit historic sites including San Francisco de Asís Church and Casa Museo del Marqués de Tojo—both recognized as National Historic Heritage sites—guided by staff from the Secretariat for Culture and Tourism.
According to officials present at the event, this initiative is intended to reaffirm government efforts toward building an inclusive state that ensures access to identity documents and fundamental rights throughout Jujuy.
