Governor Carlos Sadir announced on March 30 that a new lithium mining project in Jujuy has been submitted for inclusion in the Regime for Large Investments (RIGI). The announcement followed a meeting with representatives from the company CNGR and local communities of Jama, Olaroz, and El Toro.

The initiative is significant as it marks the second such project from Jujuy aiming to boost lithium production in Jama and northern Olaroz. “This second project that is being presented from Jujuy seeks to promote lithium production in Jama and northern Olaroz, with a very important investment for our province,” Sadir said.

Sadir also provided details about the project’s progress. He stated that “the company has already submitted the Environmental Impact Report (IIA) and is currently under technical evaluation. In addition, there are plans to install a production plant at Salar de Jama, with an estimated capacity of 22,000 tons per year.”

Highlighting technological innovation and workforce development as part of the plan, Sadir explained: “We will install a laboratory together with CNGR, JEMSE and CONICET that will allow us to develop key technical studies to improve processes within the lithium value chain. It will also serve as a practical training space for chemical engineers and students, facilitating their connection with industry and promoting Jujuy as a hub of innovation and technological development.”

“This will allow us to continue generating more jobs, local development and sustainable growth for all people of Jujuy,” Sadir said. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to establishing Jujuy as an important player in lithium production by encouraging responsible investment, technological innovation, and opportunities for residents.
