The Ministry of Health of Jujuy announced on March 26 that it is strengthening its joint response with local municipalities to address the current epidemiological situation related to chikungunya. The coordinated strategy brings together local, provincial, and national teams for active surveillance, targeted interventions, and elimination of mosquito breeding sites in prioritized areas.

The initiative aims to quickly cut transmission by deploying resources from multiple levels of government. In Aguas Calientes, the municipality played a central role by providing human and logistical resources for an integrated approach alongside primary care teams, Hospital Arturo Zabala staff, and national vector control personnel. These combined efforts allowed for focused action around the area where a positive case was detected as well as nine surrounding blocks. Activities included active searches for symptomatic individuals, epidemiological monitoring, sample collection and referral, patient follow-up, and community prevention outreach.

At the same time, an intensive “sweep” operation is being conducted throughout Aguas Calientes. Teams are working sector by sector to detect fevers early, eliminate breeding sites for mosquitoes, apply larvicides, and carry out immediate fumigation when risk situations arise. This approach covers all stages of the mosquito life cycle while prioritizing neighborhoods with higher concentrations of cases.

A similar strategy is being implemented in Perico with coordinated area blocking measures between municipal authorities and healthcare workers from Hospital Arturo Zabala’s primary care teams. This supports ongoing active surveillance efforts while ensuring patients are monitored closely.

“From the Government of Jujuy we are working side by side with each municipality putting people at the center of every decision. This deployment in territory allows us to arrive on time, accompany each family closely and provide concrete responses that are organized with greater capacity for care throughout the community,” said Minister of Health José Manzur.

According to recent reports from the General Directorate of Epidemiology in Jujuy Province six new cases have been confirmed in recent days bringing total infections up to eighteen statewide—all described as stable conditions ranging from mild to moderate symptoms without need for hospitalization but under continuous monitoring. Of these new cases four were reported in Aguas Calientes one in Caimancito and one in Yuto; overall there have been twelve cases recorded so far in Aguas Calientes two each in Perico and Caimancito one each in San Salvador de Jujuy and Yuto.

Health authorities remind residents about preventive measures such as removing containers that collect water keeping yards clean using insect repellent especially among vulnerable populations—and seeking medical advice promptly if experiencing high fever or severe muscle or joint pain particularly after travel through areas where chikungunya or dengue circulates actively.
