The Ministry of Health in Jujuy has announced that it will continue its campaign to prevent dengue in San Salvador by conducting waste removal operations, known as descacharrado, across several neighborhoods. The areas scheduled for these efforts include Punta Diamante, El Paraíso, Las Marías, Cerro Las Rosas, Aeroclub, 8 de Marzo, 4 de Agosto, and the Guerrero zone.

Although there are currently no reported cases of dengue in the province, health authorities stress the importance of coordinated actions with municipalities, neighborhood centers, and local residents to prevent the spread of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. These mosquitoes transmit dengue and breed primarily in household environments.

“While the province is free from dengue cases, coordinated actions with municipalities, neighborhood centers and the community are key to preventing the proliferation of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that transmit infection and always develop in home environments and surroundings,” stated officials from the Ministry of Health.

As part of Jujuy’s Provincial Dengue Prevention Campaign, teams will focus on eliminating mosquito breeding sites by removing objects and containers that can collect water. Officials note that high temperatures and humidity at this time of year help speed up the mosquito’s life cycle and increase the risk of infection.

Through a comprehensive approach, health workers are not only carrying out waste removal but also placing ovitraps—devices used to monitor mosquito eggs—in homes across different sectors of San Salvador. These traps help track areas where mosquito breeding is most active.

The schedule for these operations starts each day at 8:30 a.m. On November 4th, activities will take place in Punta Diamante; on November 5th in El Paraíso and Las Marías; on November 6th in Guerrero; on November 11th in Cerro Las Rosas; on November 12th in Aeroclub and 8 de Marzo; and on November 13th in Asentamiento 4 de Agosto.

These ongoing measures aim to maintain Jujuy’s status as free from dengue while reducing risks associated with seasonal climate conditions.
