The Ministry of Health of Jujuy announced on March 13 that it is continuing its strategy of deploying itinerant doctors, a policy aimed at bringing specialized medical care to various parts of the province. This initiative focuses on decentralizing health services as outlined in the Strategic Health Plan II.
The program is designed to make it easier for residents, especially those living in remote areas, to receive free medical attention without having to travel long distances. By providing care locally, the ministry aims to improve diagnosis times and treatment outcomes.
In March, specialists in pediatrics, ophthalmology, general medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, gynecology and obstetrics, cervical pathology, traumatology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases are offering consultations across different regions. These visits include complementary studies such as ultrasounds and referrals for further consultation or appointments with reference hospitals. Surgical interventions are also being scheduled under this itinerant model.
The work is being coordinated with hospitals in La Mendieta, La Esperanza, Palma Sola, San Pedro, El Talar, Libertador, Calilegua, Yuto, Fraile Pintado, Perico, Monterrico, El Carmen, Palpalá, Alto Comedero, Maimará, Tilcara, Humahuaca, Abra Pampa, Susques and El Aguilar.
This ongoing effort reflects the province’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility by ensuring that specialized services reach even the most distant communities.
