The Ministry of Health in Jujuy announced on March 20 that three new cases of chikungunya have been confirmed in the province, bringing the total number of people currently infected to twelve. Javier Cadar, Secretary of General Coordination of Health, said all patients are stable and experiencing mild to moderate symptoms that do not require hospitalization. He added that each patient is under appropriate monitoring and control.

Cadar detailed that two of the new cases are located in Aguas Calientes and one in the Alto Comedero neighborhood of the provincial capital. “This means that as of today there are eight cases in Aguas Calientes, two in Perico, one in Caimancito, and one in San Salvador,” Cadar said.

Health authorities emphasized ongoing efforts to address both dengue and chikungunya through coordinated work by primary health care teams and public hospitals. “Sanitary surveillance is permanent; this allows us to detect any suspected case early, activate epidemiological investigation, and upon diagnostic confirmation, carry out peridomestic blockades, reinforce container removal campaigns (descacharrado), and conduct fumigation when indicated,” Cadar said.

He also highlighted collaboration with municipalities and urged residents to strengthen preventive habits at home. “We must eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites—any container that can accumulate water—and keep patios and gardens clean. Also, avoid bites by using repellent and wearing long-sleeved clothing whenever possible,” he said.

Cadar concluded by advising anyone with symptoms such as high fever, headache, muscle or joint pain—especially if accompanied by vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea—to seek immediate medical attention rather than self-medicating so proper analysis and follow-up can be provided. Public health services are available at local CAPS centers or hospitals as well as through virtual consultations at https://salud.jujuy.gob.ar/asistenciavirtual/ from Monday to Sunday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
