The province of Jujuy marked World Water Day with its first interinstitutional event on March 27, bringing together representatives from Agua Potable de Jujuy S. E., Xuma, the engineering and agricultural faculties of the National University of Jujuy (Unju), and private sector companies. The event, held under the slogan “Where water flows, equality grows,” focused on issues related to water conservation, treatment processes, and responsible usage.
The importance of collaboration across different sectors was highlighted by Luis Alejandro Vargas, dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Vargas said there is value in “inter- and multidisciplinary work” as well as in the participation from teachers, graduates, public institutions, and private companies to “coordinate activities and generate points of consensus in water care.”
Luciana Pizarro, head of laboratory and faculty member at Engineering, said that there was “great interest shown by all participants in caring for and protecting our natural resources.” She also noted that the event allowed for building consensus and raising awareness about these issues.
Pizarro added that various organizations participated in this initiative—including Agua Potable de Jujuy S. E., Recursos Hídricos (Water Resources), Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology Agency—and anticipated more state agencies would join future efforts.
She emphasized “the outstanding quality of water we have in the province—low sodium content with strict quality controls—that directly impacts all residents of Jujuy.” The event aimed to strengthen ongoing dialogue between academic institutions, government bodies, and industry partners regarding sustainable management practices for local water resources.
