The province of Jujuy has begun the implementation of the EGRA 2025 (Early Grade Reading Assessment) in primary schools. The assessment targets first and second grade students and aims to measure early reading skills.
The evaluation process will take place from November 17 to 26 in nine selected schools across the province. It includes training sessions for local teams and the use of various subtests designed to assess fluency, comprehension, and phonological knowledge.
According to the Ministry of Education, “Jujuy and Catamarca were designated to represent the NOA region in this first federal experience agreed upon by the Federal Education Council.” The initiative is being carried out with support from jurisdictional teams and supervision from five coordinators sent by the National Secretariat of Education.
On the morning of November 17, an in-person training was held for a local team consisting of ten test administrators and two facilitators, who had previously participated in online training sessions. The coordinators from the National Secretariat are responsible for overseeing the process.
The application phase started at Escuela N.Āŗ 255 Pucarita and Colegio Divino Redentor, where both first and second grade classes are being evaluated. The schedule will continue at other institutions throughout the week and into next week, taking into account scheduled holidays.
The EGRA test records levels of initial literacy development through subtests such as identification of initial sounds, letter-sound knowledge, reading pseudowords, reading words and short sentences, text reading, reading comprehension, and oral comprehension.
Officials from Jujuyās Ministry of Education stated that “the results will provide valuable information to strengthen pedagogical strategies and support literacy processes in classrooms.”
