The Ministries of Health and Education in Jujuy have announced the implementation of the “Apto Físico Único 2026,” a medical evaluation required for children and adolescents to participate in school or non-competitive sports activities. The main purpose of this control is to assess cardiovascular health and support families in prevention, with a focus on overall well-being.

This assessment can be conducted at public primary health centers as well as private institutions and clinics during a routine visit with a pediatrician or general practitioner. The process involves an interview about personal and family medical history, along with a full physical examination that pays particular attention to heart health. In most cases, this clinical evaluation is considered sufficient.

Specialist consultations or additional tests such as electrocardiograms are not needed if the child or adolescent is healthy. These are only requested under certain circumstances: when entering primary or secondary school, if there are personal or family risk factors, if issues arise during the medical interview, if any concerning signs are found during the physical exam, following a COVID infection with cardiac involvement, or at the discretion of the pediatrician.

Families should arrange for the Apto Físico Único when requested by schools or sports clubs at the start of each academic year or sports season. If no problems are detected during the clinical assessment, further testing is unnecessary and participation in physical education or sports should not be delayed. For minor conditions that do not prevent physical activity, certification can be adapted so that children can participate safely with specific precautions as needed.

According to officials, “With this strategy, Salud accompanies families with clear information and responsible controls, promoting an active, healthy and safe childhood and adolescence throughout the province.”
