Jujuy launches weeklong cultural events across multiple towns

Jujuy province has announced a week-long cultural agenda from January 8 to 15, featuring events across several towns. The program aims to showcase local traditions, music, and gastronomy.

On Thursday, January 8, musical performances will take place in the Quebrada region. In Humahuaca, the Orquesta del Árbol de la Amistad will perform at Plaza Sargento Mariano Gómez at 11:00 a.m. Maimará will host “Flautas en concierto” at Capilla Ntra. Señora de la Candelaria with musicians Gabriel Romero, Joaquín Belluca, Minerva Asís, Jonathán Mamani, Fabiana Barraza and Mario Castelli at the same time. El Aguilar is organizing the XIX Encuentro de Pesebres at Estadio 23 de Agosto starting at 3:00 p.m.

Friday’s schedule includes live music in Purmamarca on Calle Lavalle beginning at 10:00 a.m., and “Enero Tilcareño” in Tilcara with the selection of Paisana in Plaza Central (9:00 a.m.) and an art exhibition at Museo Regional de Pintura from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In El Carmen, there will be an outdoor show by clown Niño with games and contests in Plaza Domingo T. Pérez (7:30 p.m.). Palpalá is set to hold its eighth Tamal Contest at Predio Fuente de Aguas Danzantes from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., including food stalls and live music.

Maimará opens its summer season in Plaza Central General San Martín from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., while San Salvador de Jujuy offers performances by Nadia Szachniuk & Mariano Agustoni at Teatro El Pasillo (9:30 p.m.), along with an art exhibit by Alejandro Tevez at Cabildo and summer music workshops for adults.

Saturday features festivals throughout the province. Tilcara’s “Enero Tilcareño” continues with a season launch event (7:30 a.m.), followed by women’s rodeo competitions and criollo barbecues in Camping Peña Encantada (2:00 p.m.). Humahuaca holds its XI Festival de la Caja y de Copla in Comunidad Aborigen Pueblo de la Candelaria (9:00 a.m.). There are also Latin dance congresses, copla tributes, concerts like “Jallalla Warmi,” horse festivals in El Fuerte (1:00 p.m.), and Purmamarca hosts the Encuentro de Copleros’ forty-first edition on Plaza 9 de Julio (3:00 p.m.).

Sunday includes community gatherings such as “Jallalla Warmi” in Tilcara’s central plaza (noon), mateadas and traditional dancing in El Carmen’s main square (8:30 p.m.), Reyes Magos celebrations for children in Palpalá (4:00 p.m.), artisan fairs and food markets in San Antonio (4-10 p.m.), foam parties hosted by Peña Los Amigos club Gorriti (4 pm) as well as more theater shows.

Workshops round out Monday through Wednesday programming — these include handicraft classes led by Mabel Mamani; musical events; tourism training sessions focusing on environmental diversity; and ceramic workshops open to participants for a fee.

According to organizers, this agenda “consolidates Jujuy as a territory where music, community gatherings and gastronomy coexist across many spaces.” They add that “the province continues offering diverse proposals until the end of January that invite people to experience its rich culture.”
