The Jujuy Legislature held its first special session and third regular session on April 9, with both meetings set to address a range of appointments, legislative proposals, and requests for information.
These sessions are significant as they mark the beginning of the legislative body’s active agenda for the year. The special session was called by the provincial executive branch to confirm key appointments in the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Diego Cussel was proposed as State Prosecutor, while MartĂn AndrĂ©s La Villa and Rodrigo Guevara were nominated as investigative prosecutors.
During the regular session that followed, legislators planned to send an executive decree regarding cost containment measures in provincial public administration to Institutional Affairs. This measure covers centralized and decentralized agencies, autonomous organizations, state companies, and corporations for fiscal year 2026.
Several bills were introduced or advanced during this session. These included a proposal for Jujuy Province to adhere to National Law No. 21.477/76 on property ownership through administrative prescription; modifications to the Fiscal Code; initiatives aimed at modernizing public procurement; and a bill proposing the creation of Alto Comedero municipality by Frente Jujuy Crece.
Deputy RubĂ©n Rivarola presented multiple projects: establishing centers for juvenile offenders, allocating land in Palpalá for a logistics center, modifying electoral law to introduce single paper ballots, creating a public services superintendent’s office, promoting electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and setting up a new mining court under provincial authority.
Other lawmakers also put forward proposals such as incorporating BUP into the electoral system (Manuel Soler), banning personal electronic devices in schools (Frente Jujuy Crece), protecting fossil structures (MartĂn Fellner), addressing wage emergencies (PTS Left Front), among others. Several requests for reports on issues like police working conditions (NoemĂ Isasmendi), bidding processes in Caimancito, operations of Solar Train and Cannava companies, financial situations of various state entities including Jemse and Jujuy Digital Sapem were also submitted.
